Joel Cunningham

Joel Cunningham joined Luvera Law Firm in 1995, specializing in representing plaintiffs in medical malpractice and product liability cases, with an emphasis on cases against large pharmaceutical companies. Cunningham retired from the firm in 2018. 

Cunningham’s prowess in the court room has led to numerous jury awards in excess of $1 million. He and Paul Luvera obtained a $29.7 million verdict in 1999 — the largest medical malpractice verdict in Idaho state history. In 2001, he and Luvera won a $16.2 million verdict against Abbott Laboratories and the University of Washington Medical Center. And, in 2008, he and Luvera obtained a jury verdict of $40 million in a case against Edwards Life Sciences. 

In addition to being a member of the Washington State Pattern Jury Instructions Committee for the past 25 years, Cunningham is an invited member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and the Damage Attorney’s Round Table. He is also an elected fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a member of the International Society of Barristers, and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, whose membership is limited to the top 500 trial lawyers in the world.x
